Behind the scenes of every game day advertisement for South athletics on Instagram accounts like @gbsbarstool and @titan.nation is a student with a camera, waiting for their perfect shot, junior Nolan Miller said. For Miller, this sideline experience became his passion.
Miller’s career manifested in a South Photography 101 class he took sophomore year. Miller found his passion working hard in the class. After Miller’s first time taking photos at the North versus South Boys’ Varsity Soccer Regional Semifinals on Oct. 1, he knew he loved sports photography, Miller explained.
“I wasn’t using the greatest camera at the time, but my photos came out decent and that’s when I really wanted to start investing in my photography,” Miller said.
Miller is eager to start the next chapter in his photography career selling his sports photography through his Instagram account, @nmphto, he explained. Miller continues to develop his photos in the same dark room he used in the Photography 101 class. Miller goes out to support private and club soccer games in order to grow his photography business, but South games are where Miller believes he can make the biggest impact on the community.
“With my photography and making good posters and game day images, I can [help to] get school spirit up and get more people to show up to the games,” Miller said.
