District 225 Board of Education approved the appointment of P.E.Teacher Joshua Stanton as the new Instructional Supervisor for the Physical Education, Health and Driver’s Education Department, Principal Dr. Barbara Georges said. He will begin to transition into the new role July. 1, replacing Stephen Stanicek, current Instructional supervisor for the Physical Education, Health, and Driver’s Education Department, who is retiring at the conclusion of the school year.

Stanton joined the Physical Education, Health, and Driver’s Education Department in 2013 as a teacher and Department assistant, Georges said. Since then, he has coached baseball and girls’ golf and has been a leader on a variety of staff committees such as the PLC, We are Titans team and testing coordinator.

In addition to his experience as a teacher in the Physical Education, Health, and Driver’s Education Department, Georges noted Stanton’s extensive education experience that he will bring to his new role.

“[Stanton] earned his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science at Central Iowa University, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and School Leadership at Concordia University Chicago and Northeastern Illinois University,” Georges noted.

The process to choose a new Instructional Supervisor began last October, Casey Wright, Associate Principal of Administrative Services explained. After deciding on the qualities the Physical Education, Health and Driver’s Education Department was looking for in a leader based on the recommendation of P.E. teachers and students, Stanton proved to be the best candidate for the position.

Stanton expressed his gratitude for receiving the opportunity to serve as the new instructional supervisor of the Physical Education, Health, and Driver’s Education Department, and is looking forward to continuing the Department’s mission of helping students gain the knowledge and skills to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“South has a long and storied tradition of academic excellence, and has been my home for the last decade as an educator; I am beyond excited to continue to work alongside and support our amazing students, staff, and community in this new role,” Stanton said.
