On Monday, May 9, junior Zidan Raab passed away, according to an email from South’s administration to Glenbrook students. Raab was a part of South’s Advanced TV (ATV) and Film program and was a member of the water polo and swim team.

As a part of ATV, Raab recently won the Crystal Pillar Award from National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Chicago/Midwest Chapter’s High School Production Awards, according to an obituary posted by a funeral home.

Outside of school, Raab was a lifeguard for the Glenview Park District and worked as an instructor at Chicago Swim School in the past. As an active swimmer, Raab also earned three top ten finishes at the Illinois State Age Group Long Course Championships in 2019, the obituary stated.

Students remember Raab for his friendly demeanor and his quick sense of humor. Additionally, South students wore white tee-shirts, and Hawaiian leis and shirts, articles of clothing Raab was known for wearing to school, last Friday, May 12, to commemorate him.

Principal Dr. Barbara Georges remembers Raab’s commendable character and warm personality. His presence in the school will be missed, she said.

“Zidan had unconditional kindness for all [people] he interacted with and was a true Titan in participation and character,” Georges said. “He had a tremendous impact on our building and his friends at South.”
