South has 2,977 students currently enrolled. There are 31 students who are a part of Orchesis, me included. All 30 of those girls are my friends.
For the past three years being a member of Orchesis, a student-run dance group, has helped me make not only friends, but be part of a community.
During the beginning of high school, it was difficult for me to meet people within such a large and diverse student body. Not until being in Orchesis, the first club I joined here, did I meet other high schoolers who shared my interest in dance, and whom I felt truly comfortable with. Many others joined for similar reasons to me which automatically gave us something in common.
For me, clubs have been an immediate way to find others who I can more easily approach as they narrow down a group of students who I relate to and connect with more easily. I found some of my best friends in clubs because we all want to be there, doing our activity with each other.
South has many clubs, which is helpful to find people with the same interests.
I believe clubs and after school activities will be the most memorable part of high school for me, since those activities are where I met the people I feel happiest with.
If I did not join any groups at South, my time here would be much different. Not having Orchesis would be particularly hard, because I would not have met girls that I can feel my best around and who I get to laugh, cry, and dance with.
Thanks to Orchesis, I have met 30 girls who I am proud to call my sisters.
