During Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, South’s choir and band traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to explore the city and embark on many musical adventures. Both groups got to perform during the trip, as well as seeing live performances and performance spaces.

Expert Advice: South’s choir got to do a clinic with Dr. Tucker Biddlecombe, a professor of choral studies at Vanderbilt University, on the Vanderbilt campus. During this clinic, students learned new warm up techniques and rehearsed two songs from their repertoire with Biddlecombe’s feedback.Grand Ole Opry: Both choir and band went to a show at the Grand Ole Opry honoring Dolly Parton’s 80th birthday. The group got to see performances of Parton’s songs and more by artists such as Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson. After the show, the group got to do a backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry and saw dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, and even got to go onstage.RCA’s Studio B: At the iconic RCA Studio B, each group got a 30-minute recording session where they performed pieces from their repertoire. Students learned about the many famous artists the RCA Studios have recorded for, such as Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton.Will the Circle be Unbroken: South’s choir got to perform in the lobby of the Country Music Hall of Fame and afterwards got to explore the haul. One room is centered around the well-known bluegrass song, “Will the Circle be Unbroken,” which the choir sang in their set.
