The Oracle earned an International First Place award from the Quill & Scroll Honor Society for its coverage, journalistic practices, writing, and visuals following a comprehensive evaluation of the three issues from the 2025-2026 school year.
The Quill & Scroll evaluation system recognizes student publications at four levels. The International First Place Award required at least one Superior and one Excellent rating across the evaluated areas, while The Oracle earned two Superior and two Excellent ratings.
The Oracle received its strongest evaluations in the areas of general practices and coverage, with the judge praising the extensive coverage and commitment to journalistic ethics. Bob Wysocki, English Teacher and The Oracle adviser, believes the recognition was especially meaningful because The Oracle had not submitted for a Quill & Scroll evaluation in roughly a decade.
“I was thrilled,” Wysocki said. “Getting that high recognition was again a validation of all the work that the student journalists of The Oracle put in to produce one of the best student publications in the country.”
For current and future staff members, the award should serve as both recognition and encouragement to keep experimenting, Wysocki said. The award is a reminder of the importance of student journalism and the standards behind it, he added.
“I just continue to be proud of the work that the student journalists do,” Wysocki said. “It’s important in this day and age that we remember and recognize that there are people who are dedicated to thehigh standards of journalism and journalistic ethics, and the awards are a nice reminder that’s something that this staff is living and doing.”
