5-Star Students app was introduced to clubs at the start of this school year to track attendance and spread information about club opportunities, Dr. Mark Maranto, Assistant Principal of Student Activities, said.
The 5-Star Students app manages which clubs students attend and how many times they have attended, Maranto said. It is a helpful tool for students to find new clubs and know when to meet, Maranto added.
“5-Star is a program that schools across the country use to track participation for clubs and activities to make it easier for sponsors to check students in at clubs,” Maranto said.
In Korean American Student Association (KASA), the app is new to the start of meetings, junior Joonie Lee said. Taking attendance by hand takes around five minutes, taking time away from the meetings and activities, the 5-Star Students app helps meetings get started faster, allowing more time for their activities, Lee said.
“I’ll check attendance more on 5-Star than what we had before the QR code,” Lee said.
Along with tracking attendance and sharing club meeting times and places, 5-Star Students is also helpful to the club sponsors and administrators, Principal Dr. Barbara Georges said. 5-Star Students will allow administration to see club attendance and which sponsors may need help, if they need more resources, and if club meeting places are sufficient for the club size, Georges said.
“It has features that help us evaluate the resources we give to make sure everything’s matching where kids are going,” Georges said.
