Governor JB Pritzker called for support of a bill that would ban cellphones in Illinois public schools in State of the State address, Patch News reported.
Bill 2427 unanimously passed the State Senate but has been stalled in the House for about a year due to concerns from representatives about enforcement and emergency situations.
The bill would require all school districts and charter schools to restrict cellphone use in classrooms in the 2026-2027 school year, Patch News reported.
Pritzker feels this is important because it will set all Illinois students up for success.
If passed Illinois will join 35 other states with bans on cellphones in school, Patch News reported.
