In Other News: Texas Guard in IL

Two hundred Texas National Guard troops have been deployed to Chicago at the request of the Department of Homeland Security. The troops were spotted on Federal property in Elmwood, southwest of the city.

Despite the objection of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, the troops will protect Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offi cers and facilities at a time when the presence of ICE agents has significantly increased in Chicago, The New
York Times reported.

Illinois has sued the Trump administration over this move, with Kwame Raoul,the Illinois Attorney General claiming the move is unconstitutional, and that it meets none of the legalities required for deployment, The New York Times reported.

Troops can be seen walking near popular Chicago tourism spots, clad in camouflagemasks, The Chicago Sun Times reorted. ICE Agents have elevated tensions in the city by deploying tear gas onto the streets with little to no warning and raid-
ing apartments in the middle of the night, The New York Times reported.

Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson pointed out that crime in the city has dropped in recent years, and troops will likely not help this drop, The New York
Times reported.
