Charles “Chuck” Acasili, Boys’ Cross-Country Coach and South alum, passed away on April 16, an email to South staff said.
Acasili graduated from South in 2003 and returned in 2006 as a volunteer cross-country and track and field coach. He remained as a coach for close to two decades, the email said.
“Coach Chuck fostered a deep love for the sport in others, modeling what it means to give selflessly in support of a team and community,” according to the email.
Acasili was born in the Philippines, then moved to Glenview at age nine, starting as a South student in 1999, an obituary from Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home said. After graduating from South, he continued his education at Oakton Community College and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
One of his many jobs as a coach included meticulously recording athletes finishing times to ensure all students had accurate data, the email said. He stayed a volunteer track coach at South for many years, athletic director Tom Meitus said.
“Coach Chuck volunteered here for 20 years and never asked for anything in return,” Meitus said. “He volunteered his time and was dedicated to the program for both the boys cross country and track and field teams.”
