A fire broke out in a culinary lab at Glenbrook North Tuesday night at 10:02 pm. The North Buildings and Grounds team were safely evacuated and the fire was responded to by the Northbrook Fire Department within five minutes, Dr. R.J Gravel, District Superintendent, said. Room C114, the site of the fire, will remain closed for cleanup and restoration, Gravel said. Adjoining areas and hallways are affected by residual smoke and odor, but are being responded to by Belfor, the District’s restoration partner, Gravel said.
“We are grateful for the fire department’s quick response and professionalism,” Gravel said.
North’s administration will work with culinary teachers to set up a temporary student culinary lab, Gravel said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Northbrook Fire Department.
South has had two fires in recent years, both in the Woods room, including an outbreak on May 4, 2023, which canceled classes for one day, and on Dec. 2, 2024,which caused an early dismissal.
