In Other News: Grim winter expected

The upcoming winter could be the coldest and snowiest in a decade due to a weather phenomenon called “The Blob,” CBS News Chicago reported.

The phenomenon happens when ocean temperatures become warmer than usual, pushing cold air into the Midwest, CBS News Chicago explained.

The last time “The Blob” hit Chicago was in the winter of 2013 when snow fell almost every other day, 23 nights saw temperatures below zero, and the temperature in Febuary  was 11 degrees below average, CBS News Chicago reported.

Record warm temperatures in Lake Michigan could also cause increased lake effect snow, CBS News Chicago reported.
