Voters in Glenview elementary School District 34 (D34) vetoed against a referendum that would have increased property taxes to fund operational expenses such as employee salaries, education programs, and transportation. The vote will not affect South or D225, Deputy Superintendent Dr. R.J. Gravel said.
D34 officials said they might have to consider cutting non-essential student programs such as music, art, gym, and other extracurriculars for the 2027 school year.
D34 is the largest of five school districts that feed into South, the Chicago Tribune said. D34 serves 4,281 Glenview children in grades K–8, the Chicago Tribune said. Of Glenview’s residents, 55 percent of residents voted against the increase and 44 percent voted for the increase, the Cook County Clerks Office said.
“[The District] knows that the future of our children and our schools is a shared responsibility, and we need [the communities] continued support as we navigate these challenges together.” Dane Delli, D34 Superintendent, said.
