District 225 was ranked as the second best school district among 12,192 districts in the country and given an A+ rating, according to rankings compiled by Niche’s 2025 Best Schools and Districts.
This ranking was released on Sept. 30 and included 15 other Illinois school districts, all of which were ranked in the top 100. Niche evaluation of A+ for the district was derived by looking at contributing factors including academics, diversity, teachers, college prep, clubs and activities, administration, sports, food, and resources and facilities. Niche’s ranking also alludes to the job that the district has done when it comes to enhancing its resources, facilities, athletics, staff, and more, Principal Dr. Barbara Georges said. These opportunities are present because of the emphasis on the Titan values of being respectful, curious, inclusive, and prideful, she explained.
“Our work has been social, emotional, and academic,” Georges said. “That is what is pushing us [up] in the ranking. We are developing well rounded students.”
Niche’s ranking also accentuates the unique opportunities South gives its students, Georges said. For example, courses are staffed based on the amount of students that request each course, Georges explained. That is just one of many examples of South adjusting its curriculum and extracurricular activities to meet the needs of its students, she said.
“In terms of our approach, [we want] to [make] sure every single student has a path to belonging,” Georges said.
The data represents more than the district’s current success, it predicts students’ future success, Georges said. Alumni have found higher education easier because of the rigor at South, Georges explained.
“As a principal, my top priority is that every single student that walks the stage at graduation knows what their plan is for the next year and feels confident and happy with that option,” Georges said.
Carol Smith, District 225 Executive Director of Communications, also commends the strength of the district, which Niche has ranked highly for several years in a row. This result is a testament to the staff, richness of the curriculum, student dedication, and the support of families and the community, Smith said. Despite receiving an A+ ranking, the district is always looking for ways to improve, Smith added.
“Having a [collaborative] roadmap for success not only assists the district in moving forward but also holds us accountable to our community,” Smith said.
