Tron Lightcycle Run
Taking a trip on Disney World’s newest lightcycles is sure to transport you immediately to the grid, TRON’s videogame universe. TRON Lightcycle Run was opened in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom theme park in April 2023.
Perfect for thrill-riders, TRON allows guests to travel on motorcycles straight from the TRON franchise on the fastest coaster in the Disney World parks. The roller coaster is both indoor and outdoor and full of detail down to different colored discs on each guest’s lightcycle’s back, signifying your color team.
Unlike many other Disney attractions, the ride didn’t follow a direct storyline; however, I didn’t mind the ride having almost no association with the film’s storyline because TRON Legacy was not my favorite. This also gives guests who have not seen the films the benefit of enjoying this ride regardless of if they’ve seen the movie or not.
If I had to make one complaint about the ride it would be the locker system. TRON Lightcycle Run does not allow riders to travel with bags of any sort due to riders being locked into a motorbike with no compartment space. Guests have to lock belongings in lockers opened by your MagicBand or park ticket. In my experience the lockers did not open well and didn’t always work.
Overall, TRON’s newest attraction is well worth the wait time the next time you visit the Walt Disney World Parks.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure dropped short of a splashing success as it failed to fill the footprints of its predecessor, Splash Mountain. The Princess and the Frog was gifted its very first Disney World attraction on June 28 in the Magic Kingdom Theme Park.
As I approached the ride for the first time, the transformation was apparent. The rugged terrain of Splash Mountain once filled with briar thorns and capped off with a tree stump was now covered in lush scenery that made the attraction visually appealing. If only the inside of the attraction was the same.
I expected high-quality animatronics and bayou scenery straight out of the film but instead was left with repurposed Splash Mountain animatronics and creepy turtles. The attraction felt as if it was rushed together quickly.
Not only that, but Tiana’s Bayou Adventure did not follow a clear story line at all. The only way to figure out what the ride was based on was to read the newspapers posted around the queue. The attraction is supposed to pose as a sequel to the 2009 film following Tiana and her friends as she looks to host a Mardi Gras party; however, almost none of the original characters could be found in the ride until its closing scene, including Naveen and Lottie. Although the ride takes place in the future, the addition of these characters, and other main characters such as Ray and Dr. Facilier, would’ve added more to the plot line than random forest animal animatronics.
The attraction may have filled the same tracks of the iconic Splash Mountain but failed to fill its legacy. If you are planning on visiting Disney World anytime soon, don’t waste your stress on rushing to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
