All aboard to Orlando!
Choir and band fly to Florida tomorrow to spend their spring break in Disney World during which singers and musicians alike will perform in different areas of the parks, from Disney Springs to Magic Kingdom, sophomore Keira Read, band and choir member, said.
In Orlando, Read is looking forward to marching down Main Street, U.S.A. in addition to enjoying the rides Disney World has to offer, she said. She gets to take part in this event with over 70 band and choir students, including all four grade levels.
Unlike Read, freshman band member Haneen Husain has anxiety about performing in the parade, yet she is still happy to be surrounded by her fellow bandmates, Husain said.
“I’m nervous for the parade because there [are] going to be a lot of people, but I’m pretty excited to go to Disney World and to hang out with my friends,” Husain said.
The trip to perform in Disney World has been sporadically occurring every few years and each trip Disney-themed songs are performed, Read said.
The last time the trip occcured, the band and choir groups performed the opening song from the film Frozen in a recording studio, which they were able to then send to their families, Read said.
Most students are excited to enjoy practicing music is a magical place, with like-minded people, sophomore band member Fiona Chen said.
“I am excited to learn more about music and also have free time to be with people from band,” Chen said.
Even though choir and band had to work around each program’s performance schedules, planning the trip combined went well since both band and choir programs were willing to be flexible, Band Director Brian Boron explained.
This year, the group has a busy schedule, filled with clinics, recording sessions, marching, and for choir, performing, Boron said.
The trip provides opportunities for students to step out of Glenview and experience different techniques which will prepare the students for the proffessional musician world, Boron explained.
Ultimately, the trip allows the performers to get performance experience in the most magical place on earth, Boron said.
“I love getting to see [the students] perform,” Boron said. “I am their biggest fan [and] I am really excited to see them [perform] in a different place for a new audience.”
