Eggs and Potatoes. If you like either of these things or, like me, you love both, Egg Harbor might just be heaven. Their skillets are unreal. Potatoes covered with vegetables and meat, egg on top (over medium so the yolk still gets everywhere) and melted cheese all over. God bless the chefs of Egg Harbor. I host only one complaint about this fine institution; it really isn’t a solely Glenview restaurant. The Glenview Egg Harbor location that most of us know was established in 2003 and is one of the youngest of its eighteen locations. Also, the lines get a little long and the food is pricey. Egg Harbor is a great place to go if you prefer savory over sweet for breakfast, and if someone else is paying for you.

Elly’s is new to me. I went there last year for Turnabout, and I will never forget my experience. Yes, the waiter with the perfect mustache was there as usual, but it was the food I will remember. In front of me was a stack of three pancakes. Compared to the six Georgia Pecan Pancakes from Walker Bros., I was a bit disappointed at first on a pure quantity basis. However, as I got about halfway through, I realized that there was no way I was going to finish those pancakes. I left satisfied and have left satisfied many times since. On a side note, a lot of old people eat there, which inherently makes it a great restaurant (old people have the time to find the best restaurants at the best prices).

A little-known gem of Glenview. This is my favorite place to be in Glenview before 11:00 a.m. If you want to know why, next Saturday, wake up, go to Greenwood, be welcomed by the kindest waitresses around and order the breakfast special. I love going to Greenwood because it makes me feel like I am living in an episode of Friday Night Lights; it just has that small town feel to it. The summer before my freshman year, I literally ate there every other morning. However, the food at Greenwood is not much better than what I cook at home (the eggs are basic and the chocolate shake is made with Hershey’s Syrup), and after the breakfast special ends at 11:00 a.m., the prices aren’t great.
Jasper’s

Address: 1913 Waukegan Rd.
A plate of pancakes: $5.95
Unknown and underrated. I was at first wary; most items on the menu are about ten dollars, and the menu literally looks like a copycat of Walker Bros. (from the Apple pancake to the buckwheat pancakes, Jasper’s seems to have all of the items that Walker Bros. is known for). However, for ten dollars, they bring out an omelette the size of a football, a half-plate of hash browns and two buttermilk pancakes! The pancakes do not even compare to Walker Bros, but the omelettes are fluffy and delicious. I am happy that I found this restaurant because the omelettes are as good as Egg Harbor, and when compared to the number they give you, the prices aren’t too bad.

Walker Brothers holds a level of tradition unparalleled by any other breakfast restaurant in Glenview. Walker Bros. has been here since 1981, equipped with the wooden booths, stained glass windows and an undersized parking lot we know and love. Although Walker Bros. does indeed claim my number one slot for best food, I cannot say that it is my favorite restaurant. The reason is simple: a solid meal will usually cost $15 with tip. For me, and many others, Walker Bros. is more than just a restaurant; simply walking in the door evokes some of the best memories. If this is not the case for you, then go make some memories! (And order something sweet because that’s what they’re best at).
