Outgoing and incoming executive board members talk about their experiences with Student Council and their plans for South’s future

Jeffrey Mathew: 2013-2014 President

Q: What have you learned?

A: That great power comes with great responsibility. [Student Council] has taught me that, though I may not be aware of it, someone may be watching or looking up to me, and it’s important to constantly be a good role model for others, regardless of my position.

Zach Bauer: 2013-2014 Treasurer

Q: What have you learned?

A: Being the school’s treasurer has given me the opportunity to improve my leading skills and become a better learner. It is one of the best things I’ve done in school to prepare for life after high school.

Sydney Kiwaiko: 2013-2014 Vice President

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: This year we made the change from having the football game on a Saturday morning to Friday night. It took a lot of effort and hard work from all of Student Council to meet deadlines and get the word out, but when we saw the stadium stands packed from top to bottom, we all felt such a sense of accomplishment.

Hannah Schiller: 2013-2014 Secretary

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: I was really proud of how so many members of Student Council, including quite a few freshman, took time out of their weekends in order to help collect several thousand cans that helped a lot of people.
Ellie Haramaras: 2014-2015 Treasurer

Q: Why did you join?

A: Freshman year I joined Student Council because it was one of the first things that you could do to join the school and join clubs and stuff. I just loved it. I love the people in Student Council. I’ve made a lot of friends through it, and I like planning things. I like making a difference in the school.

Ben Wiberg: 2014-2015 Vice President

Q: What are your goals for next year?

A: Help the school as much as possible in getting used to the block schedule and getting people more involved in the school.

Marley Hambourger: 2014-2015 Secretary

Q: What is your favorite part?

A: The people. Everybody is such a family. We all get along really well and they are people I can always go to when I am having a bad day. I have made so many new friends this year since joining.
