New student body president passionate about South’s future

Junior Jane Brennan was in second grade when her teacher wrote in her yearbook that she would be president someday. Although Brennan is not quite there yet, on March 5 she was elected to be South’s student body president for the 2014-2015 school year.

Besides Student Council, Brennan is involved in debate, JKB, varsity lacrosse and Model UN.

Brennan was at a National Model UN conference in New York when the election results were released.

After hearing that she had won, Brennan was in disbelief. Being South’s student body president had been a dream of hers since freshman year.

“My competition was amazing,“ Brennan said. “So the feeling of accomplishing it… it was indescribable.”

According to senior Jeffrey Mathew, South’s current president, he is thrilled to have Brennan succeed him next year.

“Already, she has demonstrated that she is a hard-working, personable and dedicated person,” Mathew said.

Brennan has been on the varsity lacrosse team since her freshman year. Her coach, Anne Lesch, also describes her as an extremely hard-worker who is very well rounded.

Junior Madison O’Brien, a friend of Brennan’s, has known her since first grade. According to O’Brien, Brennan will make an incredible president.

“I was so excited when I found out she had won,” O’Brien said. “Jane is smart, creative, kind and definitely a leader. I can’t think of a better person to lead our school.”

Brennan hopes to fill her leadership position by getting more students involved in the many activities South offers.

“I was fortunate enough to find my niche at South and it’s these activities that make me love our school so much,” Brennan said. “I hope as president I can get […]other people involved so they can experience some of the amazing opportunities South has to offer other than the academics.”

According to Brennan, she wanted to be president because she loves being a part of South’s decisions and wanted to be able to contribute as much as possible.

“I love South and love being involved in the planning of all the amazing events we put on each year,” Brennan said. “After being in StuCo for three years, I really wanted to have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and contribute as much as possible.”

As busy as she is, Brennan is very dedicated to each and every one of her activities. Terrence Jozwick, her Model UN coach, has enjoyed working with her the past three years and speaks very highly of her.

“Jane is thoughtful, considerate, resourceful and has ideas,” Jozwick said. “She also knows how to collaborate with others in order to generate the best solutions to any problem.”

Lesch, who has also worked with Brennan the past three years, was not surprised by Brennan’s victory.

“I see Jane having a real future in United States politics one day,” Lesch said. “I know she truly cares about the school, student government and wants to be a strong leader.”
