Charging across the field, a soccer player played aggressively, trying to win the game. Six years later, South welcomed a familiar face onto the soccer field as Cassidy Price returned as Girls’ Varsity Soccer Head Coach.
Reggie Lara and Mark Daniels, Girls’ Varsity Assistant Soccer Coaches, coached Price when she was at South. Price, a defender, was a key player and a captain, Lara said.
“[Price] was next to me a lot, so I what I noticed right away was that she was very positive,” Lara said.
Price was a fierce competitor on the field, but always kept a positive attitude, Daniels said. She was never afraid of being aggressive in the way she played and was always hungry to learn and play soccer, making her a better player, Daniels said.
“[Price] was a bulldog on the field,” Daniels said. “She was probably one of the hardest workers as a defender, and she was one of the leaders on the team.”
The dynamic between Price, Lara, and Daniels is like no other, Price said. Lara and Daniels have helped Price grow as a player when she was younger, she said. Price believes that every player is valuable, and that what matters is what you bring to the table, not the position you play, Daniels said.
“[Trust and induviduality] are [values] that we instill in all the coaches and the players,” Daniels said. “We’re all one program. We’re all working hard together.”
Daniels and Lara emphasized commitment and teamwork to Price when she was young, which is now reflected in Price’s coaching style, Daniels said. Lara noticed Price’s toughness as an athlete is now reflected in her coaching.
“[Price] tries to influence her own athletes to take after her and she wants that positivity to be contagious among them,” Lara said.
Price trusts what Lara and Daniels say regarding the soccer program because of their experience.
“I trust them so much because they helped develop me,” Price said. “They did a really good job when I was an athlete, to develop me as a player and a person.”
