Lacrosse looking to make impact in playoffs

The men’s varsity lacrosse team is currently 5-4. With losses to New Trier and Loyola, the team is looking forward to a lighter remainder of the season.

Juniors Cam Irwin and Ryan Hauldren cited the New Trier game as a confidence booster.

“Going into that game we had just gotten blown out by Loyola,” Hauldren said. “We were doubting ourselves, but when we saw that we could run with New Trier we knew that we had something going.”

After starting the season with a 6-1 win against Palatine, the team recovered from the Loyola and New Trier losses by bouncing back and beating Evanston Township 6-3.

According to Irwin, the team has also directed their attention to finishing the season above .500 and having double digit wins.

The tough early schedule has directed the team’s attention at winning  games but also winning the small battles.

“Our main goal is to get better every game,” Hauldren said. “No matter win or lose.”

Conditioning and consistency are objectives that the team wants to improve on as well.

“Lacrosse is the fastest game on two feet,” head coach Steven Brooks said.  “You [have to] always be running around and make sure that these kids are well conditioned.”

Because the IHSA lacrosse format allows all teams to make the playoffs, being ready to come out strong is something the Titans want.

“You kind of want to hit your stride so you can knock off good teams,” Hauldren said.
