Spencer Ford: 1988 Cadillac Deville
Echoing off South’s exterior brick walls, an unusual car horn can be traced back to junior Spencer Ford’s 1988 white Cadillac Deville.
“When I honk the horn it literally sounds like a boat horn,” Ford said.
Ford acquired the car after his great-grandmother’s passing and now drives his Deville to South each day, parking it in the senior lot without much concern of anything happening to it, due to its large size and durability.
“It’s a tank […],” Ford said.
Ford has kept all of the original features in the car. His only addition is a new radio he received as a gift for his birthday.
Ford said he appreciates the originality of the car and notes that his favorite thing about the car is the smooth ride.
According to Ford, he loves everything about his Cadillac Deville.
“It is comfortable, big […],” Ford reflected. “It’s an extremely classy car.”
Ryan Brander: 2011 Chevy Camaro
Neatly parked, senior Ryan Brander’s Chevy Camaro sits idly in the far corner of the senior parking lot.
“I’m really paranoid about it getting dents and scratches so I park far away,” Brander said.
Beyond the glossy black exterior of the car, Brander’s Camaro is equipped with an upgraded sound system and “heads-up” display, which projects information about the car onto the windshield.
“So my speed shows up, and you can fix it so it shows the RPM and if the radio changes songs it’ll show the song title on my windshield,” Brander said.
Brander acquired his new set of wheels after winning a bet with his dad. The bet stated that if Brander pitched another no-hitter for the GBS varsity baseball team, his dad would buy him a new Camaro convertible.
Although Brander’s dream car is a ‘67 Camaro, he stated that there is nothing he would want to change about his car.
“I love my car,” Brander said.
Nick Greco: 1999 Jeep Wrangler
Cruising into the school parking lot is senior Nick Greco in his 1999 Jeep Wrangler. His Jeep easily towers over the other cars parked in the senior lot after he added his own personalized touches to the car.
“Later in the summer […] I did a 3 inch lift kit and did 32 inch mud tires on it,” Greco said. “The wheels are a lot bigger and there’s black rims on it and then the lift kit just raises the body from the ground to make it higher.”
After selling his family’s gas-guzzling Tahoe at the beginning of summer, Greco began his search for a new, more gas-friendly car.
“I started looking for Jeeps because [they get] better gas mileage, and my dad’s friend owned a Jeep that they were selling, so I bought it from him for a decent price,” Greco said.
The Jeep Wrangler comes with the option of removable doors and windows. Because of this, Greco said the car is perfect for hot, summer days.
“I can take everything off of it, so I can drive with no [doors] and everything,” Greco said.
